The urban dining scene in Vietnam is coming under increasing influence from “flat-pack” international brands whilst “authentic” Vietnamese dining options have been simplified and homogenized to the extent that they are no longer truly reflective of a much more diverse and eclectic Vietnamese cuisine.
At Highway 4 we firmly believe in Vietnam’s rich culinary culture and that Vietnamese products can lead the global market. Over recent months we have taken the opportunity to distance ourselves from this “plastic” dining culture, not just in terms of food and drink but in terms of our design concept with an emphasis on “hand-made” and locally sourced products. In an age of “made in China” we focus on being creative, being different, making things ourselves and do not rely on buying off-the-shelf. Highway 4 is a restaurant everyone in Hanoi should visit at least once – despite the terrible name. This stylish venue has classic Vietnamese furnishings, English speaking staff and a large menu running through Vietnam’s entire culinary heritage. The specials are highly recommended, particularly the cat fish spring rolls. Popular with locals and tourists, all food is served with plenty of local herbs which the restaurant tries to source sustainably.
